Welcome! My name is Katherine Mitchell and I’ve taught Catholic Social Teaching to high school seniors for 3 semesters now. Every time I teach it, I struggle with the notion that I’m not really living this out as well as I should be. I think the Church’s social issues seem daunting to some: from NFP,  to purchasing clothes, to recycling, to helping refugees, to donating to good charities, being a good Catholic in the world can be overwhelming. There are lots of Catholic blogs out there, but seemingly none that intentionally talk about the principles of our social doctrine applied to real life, so here I am, called out of my comfort zone.  In short, this is a blog dedicated to the attempt to live out the 7 principles of Catholic Social Teaching in daily life:

  • Dignity of the Human Person.
  • Call to Family, Community and Participation.
  • Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Preferential Option for the Poor and vulnerable.
  • Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers.
  • Solidarity.
  • Care for God’s Creation.
